Enjoying the warmth of your own home on a rainy winter’s night is a truly unique feeling; the warm glow of your lighting and electrical appliances can be wonderfully comforting, especially directly after braving the elements. It takes much more than a suitable temperature to create a home that captivates this feeling, and with the help of the following hints and tips, you can turn any dull, chilly room into a toasty, glowing grotto!

Warm Lighting

The appearance of the area is just as much of a contributing factor to the overall relaxing ambiance of the room, and by adding some ‘warm’ lighting you can add a comforting glow to overpower any dull, cold colors. Lamps that come with appropriately warm colored shades are a quick, easy way to set those drab, chilly corners at ease. Adding a few scented candles around your home can make a huge difference; the festive smell of the more ‘seasonal’ candles alongside the flickering glow can really add a great atmosphere to any space.

Cover the ‘Cold Spots’

If you’re looking to kick back and relax in your cozy home then take a look around and find what you would consider to be ‘cold spots’. These are places in your home that harbor the cold until your house has been thoroughly heated; laminate or tiled flooring, leather sofas, bathroom furniture and wooden/metal dining room chairs all have a tendency to hold cold temperatures for quite some time. You can combat this by simply adding some comfortable cushions, soft rugs, bathroom mats and furry throws where needed.

A Warm Night’s Sleep

Climbing into a freezing cold bed on a winter’s night can often be quite uncomfortable; it can take quite some time to properly warm up. The small but significant shock could potentially set the owner up for an uneasy night’s sleep. Fill a couple of hot water bottles and place them where your upper and lower body usually rest; the heat will be enough to radiate warmth around the general area where you normally rest.

Warming electric blankets are great for readying your bed for a good night’s sleep; after fitting the blanket to your bed simply flick the switch around half an hour before bedtime and let the blanket warm the entire surface of your bed!

So there we are! Some simple yet helpful tips to help you chase the winter out of your home and create a cozy household to greet you after braving the ice, wind and rain!
