Whether you already have a shed you don’t feel you are getting the best use of, or are thinking of building a new one, there is far more you can do with it than use it to store your lawnmower and other general stuff! A good shed can be used as a whole extra area of your home which you can repurpose for all kinds of uses!
Here are some fun ideas of ways you could make better use of a wooden shed:
An Office
OK, so an office may not be that fun but it can be hugely useful, and there is no reason why a well decorated shed can’t be a great place to get away from the distractions of home to work on projects without actually having to go anywhere away! Obviously, waterproofing and electrical supply can be a concern when you need computer equipment, but these can usually be taken care of fairly easily, or you can simply make a comfortable place to work or study with a laptop.
The shed can also make a good second office where your kids can study if you already have your own set up inside the house – it can be a good place for them to concentrate and feel that they have privacy.
A Gym
A shed can easily be made into a great place to work out. You can, depending on size, usually get a piece of cardio equipment in there. However, it may be even better suited to a free weights room or multi-gym type arrangement. It can be nice to get out of the house to exercise without having to make a trip to the gym, and it can also be much cooler than indoors, which can be comfortable for exercise. Alternatively, you can simply buy some mats and resistance bands and make your shed into a yoga studio.
A Craft or Art Room
If you enjoy being creative or artistic, or someone in your family does and you are sick of them making a mess inside, you could set your shed up as a craft room or art studio. Being out in the garden can be a peaceful and inspiring place to paint, sculpt or create, and it can also make a lot of sense to store messy equipment out there where it doesn’t have to be meticulously put away between sessions!
A Play Room
A shed can make for a fun play room, that again can help keep toys and other debris from your kids out of the house! It can also be a good place to teach your kids if you like giving them lessons about the garden and nature, or about things like woodwork and crafts.
Making the shed into a fun playing room, like the one shown above, can boost creativity in kids as well as adults. Amber made that Rocket in the corner, complete with the US flag and it also has ‘controls’ inside. NASA would be proud of her! Photo Courtesy: Pat Castaldo
With so many interesting ways, you and your family can make good use of a nicely built and decorated shed and there is no excuse to allow yours just to become a storage for seldom used items! Clearing out and redecorating the shed can be a fun and rewarding task in itself, as can building one, so why not get started making your new useful shed room today!
