Summer Bedroom Decorating Ideas

Summer Bedroom Decorating Ideas 1

Summer brings a lot of interesting sights and lovely greenery, but our homes rarely mirror nature’s awakening. Bedrooms are places we spend time to relax, to enjoy some time with our loved ones and more, so inviting summer into it will be something really worth having.

There are several ways one can do that and this article aims to show them. We begin with the following tip:

Bring and decorate with flowers

You should use as many and as wide a variety of flowers as possible, as long as it makes the room look beautiful and colorful. Their presence will lighten the mood, inviting renewal and their lovely scent.

Lay down a nice rug

Use a real rug, made of natural materials on the floor of your bedroom. It will complement the room well, and it will also be a much better choice than other floor covers.

Decorate your storage

Wardrobes and any other storage you’re using in your bedroom can be decorated with floral motifs or other green, yellow or other colors which mirror the summer landscape outside.

Paint your ceiling

The ceiling of a room is usually white, however painting a light blue or gray color will create an illusion reminding of the open sky. This will give your bedroom a wonderful atmosphere, especially if the walls are covered with something to complement that change as well.

Reorganize your bedroom

Summer Bedroom Decorating Ideas 6

Changing things around will freshen up your room, creating a different experience altogether. You can remove certain decorations from the room, replacing them with new ones or old ones from different rooms.

Put up a rocking chair

Depending on the size of your bedroom, you can always put up a rocking chair that fits the room well, creating a quiet place you can enjoy with a night light for some reading, if that is one of your preferred methods of relaxation.

Repaint or redecorate your old belongings

If you are tired of looking at the same old decorations and furniture, you could take some simple steps to make things look as new. Simply combine the old pieces with some new and creative ways to change them and you will have excellent results. Sometimes the solution can be surprisingly simple – simply putting a throw on your old chair or your bed can change its looks.

Repaint or put up new wallpaper

This will definitely freshen up the walls, plus if you use summer motifs in everything, you will create the desired effect with ease. Even creating wall art through floral painting on the walls can become something truly amazing if given the chance to blossom.

Use natural elements

Putting up some small trees in a planter of a basket and filling up the empty corners will make the room look more complete in the end. You can complement the setting with some lighting and mirrors for added effect. You will be surprised at how much your home will change by putting these up.

How to Make Your Own Bed Feel Like it Belongs in a Luxury Hotel

How to Make Your Own Bed Feel Like it Belongs in a Luxury Hotel 1This Luxury Double Prince Bed (Metal & Oak Mahogany Wooden Post) at BEDSTREET of UK can make you feel like you are in a Luxury Hotel room.

There is a reason why the first thing you do when you check into a luxurious hotel is to flop down on the bed. Posh hotel beds are the ultimate in comfort. Sinking under the sheets of a hotel bed after a long day of travelling is nothing short of euphoric and between the high thread count linens, cosy duvet, freshly scented pillows and high quality mattress, you sleep like you are floating on a cloud.

What if you could make every night sleeping in your own bed as indulgent as a night in a luxury hotel? Having the feeling of a luxury hotel in your own home would be something wonderful to come home to every night and it doesn’t have to cost as much as you think. Not only will getting a better night’s sleep make you healthier, happier and more rested, you will be giving yourself a little treat of making bedtime a luxurious indulgence.

Here are a few ways that you can make your own bed feel like it belongs in a super posh hotel:

Good Quality Mattress

Restus Memory Foam And Pocket Sprung Double Mattress at BEDSTREET

In order to create the most comfortable bed, you have to start from the bottom up by choosing a good mattress. If you have an ancient mattress which sags in the middle you are not going to get a good sleep and will likely wake up with back pains.

Structure of a Memory Foam Mattress

A decent quality mattress doesn’t have to be too expensive as you can compare prices online and find quite a few great deals. There are many different options including memory foam, pocket sprung and orthopaedic.

Add an Extra Layer of Comfort

Memory Foam Topper

The difference between an ordinary bed and a five star luxury bed is the little details, so why not add an extra layer of comfort to make your bed that much softer? Many of the finest high end hotels use a feather bed which is a down pillow that covers the entire bed. It creates another layer of cushioning between you and the mattress. The higher the feather count, the softer and fuller this layer will be and the more luxurious it will feel.

Choose the Right Sheets

The next step in creating your hotel-like bed at home is to find some wonderfully comfortable sheets. If you have old, stained and worn bedding, it’s time to buy new ones. You shouldn’t be sleeping in bedding that is so worn that you would be embarrassed to let a guest sleep in it. You deserve better than that and you will sleep better in clean and crisp sheets.

If you want to totally recreate the hotel room look, most hotels use crisp white sheets for their bedding. Choose sheets which have a decent thread count and have good quality cotton.

Wash Your Sheets More Often

One of the reasons why it is so wonderful to slip into hotel sheets is because they are so clean and freshly washed. When is the last time that you washed your bed sheets at home? Not only will washing your sheets more often give you a better sleep, it will also help to get rid of flakes of dead skin, sweat and other nastiness!

Make the Bed like a Pro

Now that you have your high quality clean sheets, you are ready to make your bed so that it looks like it belongs in the executive suite at the Hilton. First, pull the bottom fitted sheet over all four corners. Then, stand at the foot of the bed and shake out the flat sheet so that it spreads out across the bed. Make sure that it hangs equally on all sides and smooth it into a straight line. Make sure that everything is smooth and flawless.

Add the Finishing Touches

The final step to making your luxurious bed is to add a few decorative extras to make it special. A couple of decorative silk pillows and some pretty lamps by the bed can create that hotel room vibe. If you want you can even place a mint on your pillow!

Once you have a luxurious and comfortable bed, every night will be like checking into the finest hotel in town! Now if you could only convince someone to bring you room service. Ah…..I’ll have my breakfast in my bed, please…..

The beds in high end luxury hotels are amazing sanctuaries of indulgent comfort. You can make your bed more like a fancy hotel room bed with a few improvements and finishing touches.

Top Things in a Bedroom That Improve the Quality of Your Sleep

Top Things in a Bedroom That Improve the Quality of Your Sleep 1Photo Courtesy: Laura D’Alessandro

Getting a good night’s sleep is incredibly important if you want to be healthy and awake and if you want to avoid having accidents, being irritable or being confused the next day. Our sleep doesn’t only help us to build up our immune system and our general strength to fight off disease, but it is also crucial for keeping us cognizant and alert during the day. Without it we would get ill over time, but only if we didn’t first hurt ourselves through lack of concentration or awareness.

There are many things that can affect the quality of our sleep meanwhile, and many things that we need to consider before bed. Here we will look at some of those things – and you may find that some of them aren’t the things you would necessarily expect.

Heating

Your heating can have a big impact on how well you sleep and of course if you are far too hot or far too cold then this is going to impact your ability to sleep soundly. As such then it’s very important to make sure that your room is the right temperature by heating it to the correct level, but also to make sure that your bed has the correct number of blankets and things to keep you warm. Having ‘layers’ of blankets here is good idea as it enables you to throw off blankets and add them as your temperature changes throughout the night (which is normal).

Air

It’s also very important that you have a good quality of air and if it is making it difficult to breathe then of course this isn’t going to help you get a sound night. Make sure then that the moisture levels are good (use a humidifier or a dehumidifier) and get some air conditioning to help clean the air as it comes in. If you are waking up with a dry throat then this could be due to pollen and other things coming in through an open window during the night – it’s better then to have air conditioning to keep the room cool rather than letting air in from outside that might also include other pollutants such as car fumes.

Sound

A good room for sleeping should be one that has been soundproofed meaning that it needs to be as insulating as possible (so that the sound energy is absorbed rather than reflected by the surfaces). This means making sure that you have carpet instead of wooden floors, that you have heavy curtains and that you general include cushions and other soft surfaces in your room – you can even hang a rug on the wall for more insulation. Of course the insulation in your walls themselves here will also help, and you should choose a room for sleeping in that’s away from traffic and away from the noisier rooms of the house.

Light

Finally make sure to keep as much light out of your room as possible. This means making sure once again of those heavy curtains, but also turning any LCD displays around so they face away from you or even draping a hanky over them to reduce the light.

Right: Use heavy curtains to cut out light while sleeping.

Nice colors and arrangement can add spunk to your bedroom

Are you bored of waking up to the same dreary room every single day? Do you feel that there is an urgent need to change the ambience in your bedroom? If you do, then you are probably going to begin considering a redecoration of that all-important room. Whether you are going in for a complete make-over or a superficial job, you might find some great ideas with these latest trends in bedroom design and décor.

Wallpaper

There was a time when wallpaper was very popular and then there was a time when it wasn’t. Frankly, its back again and with the variety and quality you get out there today, putting up wallpaper and finding matching furniture is a cinch.

Mix and Match

Who says you need a theme in your bedroom? Your bedroom should be filled with things you love and no, we don’t mean pizzas and bottles of coke. What we mean is that you can put in colours that blend with each other, put in a stainless steel lamp on a mahogany table or an elegant digital photo-frame on a traditional bed-side table. Splash the colours about because your bedroom is all about making you happy!

Quieten things

If it is peace and quiet you are looking for, then your bedroom needs a lot of white and off-white shades. Your home might look like a beach-resort but when you put in these shades of light purple, off-white, creams and whites, you will come back home to a beautiful and calm setting. It is the place where you want to be able to relax so allow your environment to do that for you.

Flowery Views

There can never be a dearth of freshness in your bedroom and bringing in some flowers will certainly make your room look and smell better. A simple pink or fuchsia flower can sparkle up your room even if you put in just a couple of them into a vase on the bedside table.

Added Space

There are some things that always make the entire situation better and a separate space, that’s connected to the bedroom, is often considered quite essential. It, firstly, makes the room a lot bigger and creates more space. Second, it gives you the opportunity of spending time in your room  even when you are not in bed, and finally, it ensures that you can sit around in your bedroom and read, or create a personal space for yourself within your own home.

Some Conveniences

Living in your own home must have some conveniences and even though so many people admire the facilities they get in their hotel bedrooms, they don’t put them up in their own homes. Imagine a coffee maker in your bedroom – something that lets you steaming mug of freshly ground coffee every day. If you are more of the house-chores variety, then you will find that a tumble dryer, hidden away in a corner of the room, can be quite a handy addition.

Your bedroom should be a place that makes you feel at home. It should not intimidate you in any way and in no way should there be any kind of problem in dealing with the things that are placed within it. From the colours to the positioning of the furniture to what lies on the shelves, everything needs to add to that cosy and comforting atmosphere that will make your bedroom the place you never want to leave.

Bedroom Makeovers

Changing the look of your bedroom can really enhance your nights sleep, and make you feel happier in general. Snuggle up in the most comfortable bed, and wake up in a calming and relaxing interior space after you makeover your own favorite room.

To start (re)designing your bedroom, take pictures of your current room before you start the makeover. Take pictures of the details, things you like about it, and things you don’t. Write down what it is that pleases you, and what is disappointing. Work out why you feel this way…sometimes it cannot be explained, but often there’s a reason to why we feel a particular way about a space.

Bedroom Makeovers 2 - Breakfast-in-BedNow you can begin to look at other inspirational spaces and makeovers. Buy design books, or check out the latest blogs for ideas on how you can recreate your bedroom. Your makeover will help to actualize your style personality, so make sure you choose a design that’s really ‘you’ and not an attempt to be something you are not just because you think it looks stylish. Express yourself; decide whether you prefer comfort, pale colors, cotton, silk, wood, modern, vintage, deep colors, and contemporary design.

It’s always good to look at the practical aspects also. What will you be using the room for? Will it be just for sleeping, or might you want to read, get dressed, have breakfast, drink coffee, or do your morning yoga. Each of these things will require the room to function well; if you want to have breakfast, then you’ll want a comfortable set of pillows and headboard for your bed to lean against, if you want to read in bed, then you’ll want to make sure that there’s a reading light near you.

Interior Design for your Bedrooms

Bedroom Makeovers 3 - Country Bedroom

A beautiful and comfortable Country Bedroom – Photo Courtesy: xlibber

Bedroom interior decorating is all about comfort and relaxation, or it ought to be. If you’re looking to inject a bit of country style into your own bedroom then why not try a mix of vintage homeware, lots of cushions, delicious blankets, atmospheric lighting and neutral colors.

For a more modern approach, mix delightful and happy contemporary prints with design classics in a vast array of beautiful colors. Textiles are so important in a bedroom, as they create a luxurious feel, so mix and match textures in your bedroom makeover with ‘noodle’ bedroom rugs, silk cushions, antique lace curtains, velvet throws and faux fur eiderdowns.

To Feng Shui your bedroom, keep technology out (no computer, no TV), use neutral colors, open the windows regularly, have a dimmer switch, put happy pictures on your wall and don’t have the bed facing the door.

Kids Bedroom Decor

Bedroom Makeovers 4 - Beach House Kids' Room

An Excellent Beach House Kids’ Room by Posh Living – A vintage-look bathing lamp sits on the desk with a Wave-shaped backboard.

You will want to create a magical, yet practical space for your child to live in. One that is simple enough to not be too expensive to redecorate when they get older, but one that is special enough for your child to love and own.

Start by getting the essential items of furniture: bed, bookcase, toy storage, wardrobe, cupboards. Make sure that these pieces are timeless, and will suit the child until they are much older. Then be creative with bedroom decor paint and home accessories; add some bedroom stencils of their favorite thing (cars, butterflies, animals, etc) onto the wall, and make sure you add places where they can be creative. A large chalk board is awesome fun, and a box of craft supplies is perfect for a rainy afternoon.

Make sure that everything is washable and fun! Don’t place expensive antiques in a child’s bedroom, but don’t fill it with cheap plastic toys either. Opt for cheerful wooden toys and lots of books to read; promote healthy and intelligent activities.

Don’t neglect your child’s interests; encourage them instead by creating a themed kids bedroom decor design. For example, if your child is very musical, add some notes stencils on the walls, a good sound system and some cute vintage instruments for them to play with.

Bedroom Makeovers 5 - Kids Rock Star Room

Kids Rock Star Room designed by Celeste Lindell for her young nephew.

If your son is really into comics, like Spiderman, Superman or the Transformers, then create a masculine room full of artistic comic strip designs; buy some old comic books, take pages out and paste them to wooden furniture, or create a piece of artwork by shredding them up and piecing them together in a frame.

Other interests and ways to incorporate them: if your child loves history, draw a timeline around the room, and get crafty with your kid by designing images for the timeline, creating a roman skull helmet for the Ancients and a train for the industrial revolution (as your child learns, ask them to come up with something to add to the timeline so they won’t forget). If it’s animals and a career in veterinary science your child is longing after, paste pictures of pigs, horses, sheep, ducks, etc on their cupboards, and get some cute themed cuddly toys – the perfect decor item!
