Bohemian style rooms won’t suit everyone, but if you’re an artistic type then they can look amazing and will never fail to make an impact on guests. Of course though, if you are going to make a great bohemian style room then you need to know how to go about putting it together, and there’s certainly an art to this kind of organized chaos. Here we will look at how to make your room look a little more eccentric and bohemian and how to make it all work.
Never Match Anything:
You are going for ‘eclectic’ here and that means bringing together as many different materials, colours and styles as possible. If you can do this, then you can make your rooms look like you’ve just been around collecting everything you can find and bringing them together with a sense of flare. Of course you don’t want to purposefully clash things, but if you can pick things that wouldn’t normally go together and make it work then this will show off your skills in interior design and make your room look visually very interesting.
Materials and Patterns:
This also goes for using a selection of different materials and patterns. If you can use lot of different fabrics and make your room look generally ‘soft’ and ‘patchwork’ then this will very much look fitting for a bohemian lifestyle.
Rugs:
Rugs will provide you with that pattern and fabric and at the same time they will keep up the general busy look of your room so that you don’t have to live with just a ‘boring’ expanse of plain carpet. This can also make it nicer to sit on the floor which creates a kind of laid back and comfortable feel that will go along with the whole theme nicely. You can also hang them on the walls which is an even more interesting use for them.

Culture:
As well as mixing colours, patterns and styles you should also mix cultures. Make your room look traveled and worldly and accomplish this by using as many different cultures as possible. You can do this by trekking around the world of course, but more cheaply try going to the quirky back roads and eclectic pawn shops you find in the recesses of big cities.
Candles and Incense:
Your room should be an assault on all the senses – not just sight – so you want it to smell eclectic and nice too. Incense and scented candles can have this effect on your room and some of the more decorative ones will look great on your shelves too along with some perfume bottles.
Eras:
We’ve mixed colour. We’ve mixed style. We’ve even mixed culture. Now it’s time to mix time periods too and make it look like a time lord has used your room as a storage department. Make sure that you have a variety of different eras and that you look for things that look swashbuckling, Victorian and ancient that fit your room.
Seating:
The rugs we mentioned have the added benefit of creating a great seating area that looks relaxed and casual. Well you can take this further with other relaxed and alternative seating from beanbags to hammocks.
Tidiness:
This might seem a little incongruent but actually this is very important. The danger with the style of room we just described is that it can look like a bomb hit it and it can make it impossible to find anything. You want to look quirky and stylish not insane and scatty, so combine your things together in a way that will look good and that doesn’t just look really untidy.
