All this while, you have probably underestimated the power of a sewing machine and what it can do for your home. You need not spend thousands of dollars to make your home look extraordinarily beautiful – you can easily do it yourself using a sewing machine. Once you start experimenting with home décor ideas using a sewing machine, you will be surprised at what all you are able to achieve, and that too at a minimal cost. After all, a home really isn’t a home unless it has your personal touch, glimpses of your creativity and a manifestation of your personal style!

Transform those old Plain Jain curtains into something eye-catching and vibrant by stitching some appliqués onto them. For example, a dull beige curtain can be rescued by some bright yellow circles sewn onto them. This is especially a great idea for your children’s bedroom or playroom. You may also adorn curtains with sequins, lace, brocade or even buttons.
Pillows and Cushions

Creatively made pillow and cushion cases can instantly add an interesting dimension to your room and the best part is that they are the easiest to make! Put aside the matchy covers that came with your bed sheet set and use completely contrasting patterns to liven up the space. Experiment with pleats, frills and quilted patterns to create covers that are stylish and unique.

While you are doing up your home, can your kitchen be left out? Carry over your décor theme over to your kitchen and create aprons, mittens, table mats, tea cozies, table napkins, table covers all along a similar theme. When your guests ask you where you got such gorgeously coordinated kitchen accessories, you can always smile and tell them that it’s a secret.
Kid’s Bedroom

If you have been sewing for some time, chances are that you have a huge pile of scraps lying around somewhere. Now is the time to sort them out and make a beautiful, vibrant quilt out of them. The smaller scraps can be rolled together and twisted into round side-table or floor mats, to go with the quilt. You kids will love the new splash of color and pattern in their bedroom.
Décor Items

Tired of the sad lamp sitting on the corner table? Don’t throw it out just yet. Just replace the fabric on the lampshade and add some interesting self-pattern or detailing and voila, you have a brand new accent piece for your bedroom! You may even line up old photo frames with pretty printed fabric to give them a new identity.
Storage

Do you have an old bucket lying around? Stitch a pretty cloth cover for it, along with a lid and transform it into an esthetically pleasing storage for toys, clothes and other things. You can use canvas, jute or other high-thickness fabrics for the purpose. The same can be done with boxes and large jars.
Upholstery

Are you a sewing machine champion (or on the way to becoming one)? Declare war on the dull old upholstery on your sofa and couches and breathe new life into drawing room with a more trendy color or print. In fact, once you master the art of sewing, you can change the upholstery as often as you like, making your guests go green with envy.
